A Growing Trend: What Predictive Scheduling Laws Might Mean for You

We all know how valuable time is, especially in the workplace. When a full-time employee is under-scheduled or an employer has to call in a part-time employee to work more hours than anticipated, the unpredictability can cause numerous issues. To address this problem, predictive scheduling has become an increasingly popular compliance trend that allows hourly employees to know their schedule in advance.

Put concisely by the Society for Human Resource Management, predictive scheduling laws “seek to balance respective interests between employers and employees — a balance that was recently addressed in the landmark California decision Ward v. Tilly’s.”

The goal is to create a balance that is advantageous for both employees and employers. However, policymakers have expressed wide disagreement over how to address this topic, causing many jurisdictions to take drastically different approaches.

What methods and strategies can your organization adopt in order to ensure you are compliant with the incoming legislation and ordinances in your state and municipality?
