My Paycom Journey as a Transition Project Manager

Abraham Mendieta | January 4, 2024

Dexter grew up in Tracy, a small city in northern California. As a student, he learned the value of teamwork, training and leadership as an athlete. His commitment to success earned him a football scholarship to Sacramento State University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in communication.

After graduation, Dexter spent four years moving up the ladder at Target. He gained valuable experience in a variety of functions, including overseeing whole-store remodels, and eventually became an operations manager.

In 2018, a Paycom recruiter contacted Dexter about the possibility of him taking on the role of a transition project manager. It didn’t take long for Dexter to realize that Paycom was the kind of organization where he could succeed.

We spoke with Dexter about his Paycom Journey. See what he had to say.

Tell us about your Paycom Journey.

I discovered that Paycom was exactly the company I was looking for and the TSR role was my calling. I really enjoy the project management component, but even more, I love training and developing people to help them improve and grow. Since joining Paycom in 2018, I have been promoted to the senior and then executive TSR roles.

What do you do, and what does a normal day look like?

As a TSR for Paycom, you wear many different hats. Our main responsibility is to convert clients from their old payroll and HCM providers to our Paycom system. Some tasks include working with data analysts, project managers, company consultants, best practice advisors and system trainers. We have to adapt and communicate effectively to ensure the conversion process is seamless and successful.

Why did you decide to join the Paycom team?

Paycom is a company with uncapped growth and potential. As we continue to lead the industry in our innovation and revolutionary processes like Beti®, it really excites me to be part of the journey and see what will come next.

The culture at Paycom is also something I really admire. I have developed so many great friendships from my time with Paycom, from my co-workers to my training classmates. Those are just one of the many positive experiences I’ve had while working here.

What is your favorite #PaycomPerk?

The events like Sales Winner Circle dinners, holiday parties or morning coffee runs as a team. They help create great memories and strengthen friendships.

What advice do you have for aspiring employees?

Paycom offers a unique opportunity to be a part of something new that’s never been seen before, from company culture to industry-leading innovations. Each day presents new challenges and potential to learn and grow both personally and professionally.
