What Makes a Winning Culture: Paycom Earns Comparably and Newsweek Awards

Bonny Calfy | April 13, 2023

At Paycom, we win as a team. It’s embedded in our culture. We celebrate every victory, big and small. This recognition helps us lead the industry. And we’ve got the receipts to prove it.

Each year, Paycom earns awards for our tech and teamwork. Recently, the review site Comparably gave Paycom Best Teams nods for our sales and marketing departments. Plus, Newsweek ranked Paycom as one of America’s Most Trustworthy Companies. The honor shows our commitment to bettering the lives of all employees, including our own.

Comparably bases the Best Teams awards on anonymous employee feedback from the past 12 months. Members of Paycom’s marketing and sales teams graded the organization based on 16 different workplace experience metrics, including:

  • compensation
  • work-life balance
  • career growth
  • perks
  • benefits

Paycom is the only Oklahoma-based company to be recognized on both lists. In 2022, Paycom won nine large business awards from Comparably and was the only Oklahoma-based organization to win each award.

While the awards are nice, they aren’t the reason for our success — they’re a reflection of it. Winning starts with an inclusive, innovative and supportive culture. Here’s how:

Marketing leadership

Greatness starts from the top. Teams need strong leaders to guide them. At Paycom, we have several across every department. And Paycom leaders are more than just bosses — they’re mentors and co-workers.

Take Casey Twenter, Paycom’s Senior Creative and Brand Director, for example. Earlier this year, he was named American Advertising Federation’s Oklahoma Advertising Person of the Year. Since joining Paycom in 2017, Twenter has raised the bar for marketing and led campaigns like Unnecessary Action Hero and the partnership with TikTok star Corporate Natalie.

Twenter knows that great leaders are, above all, great collaborators. In marketing, producing award-winning projects takes a combination of:

  • writers
  • designers
  • project managers
  • marketing specialists
  • and more

For Adam Ballard, Paycom’s vice president of marketing and communications, the power of synergy and teamwork is proven by the Comparably award.

“We are thrilled our marketing team achieved this honor,” he said. “We’ve launched some ambitious projects and campaigns over the past year, and our team has performed outstandingly and creatively.”

The commitment to supporting one another ripples throughout Paycom, which explains why Marketing wasn’t the only department Comparably recognized.

An unmatched sales team

Making just one more cold call. Overcoming one more objection. Spending one more week with a client. These small actions make the difference between average and great sales teams.

And even on commissioned teams, no sales representative succeeds by themselves. Holly Faurot, Paycom’s chief sales officer, experienced how the department uplifts talent firsthand. Faurot was once an intern, and a constant stream of support from mentors and co-workers helped her reach the C-suite.

“To know Comparably selected our sales team as one of the best is such an honor,” said Faurot. “I’m proud to lead this team and of the hard work and determination we demonstrated over the past year.”

Paycom’s sales team is agile and informed and stays on top of the latest trends impacting businesses everywhere. But being the best also means continuing to look inward and foster a place where people want to be.

Built on trust

A workplace is more than just somewhere to do a job. At Paycom, employees:

  • launch their careers
  • form lifelong friendships
  • constantly learn and develop
  • enjoy great benefits and top-of-the-line facilities
  • become part of a team that grows and wins together

None of that is possible without a focus on trust, honesty and integrity. After all, Paycom’s purpose is to better the lives of all employees — including our own.

Every year, Paycom introduces new ways to help people thrive. For example, our Better Conversations series helps employees productively discuss and navigate bias, equity, diversity and more. Plus, our recently formed employee resource groups give our team a safe place to share thoughts and empower one another.

Becoming a most-trusted company takes investing trust in employees. We give our people the chance to shape their careers every day. The recognition is great, but it’s a side effect of building a workplace where people can find purpose.
