  • 69% of organizations still operate across multiple fragmented systems.

  • 82% have not yet consolidated into a unified system.

  • 78% prefer to view broad total cost over subscription pricing for support and services.

  • 80% favor AI automation with human oversight for critical decisions.

When was the last time you evaluated your HR and payroll software? A new G2 study drawn from 211 in-depth interviews found buyers care less about features and more about the potential burden new tech could bring. In other words, they’re not asking what the software can do. They’re asking how much work it takes off their plate — and how much risk it adds getting there.

According to the buyers who participated in the study:

  • 82% haven’t consolidated to a unified system
  • 78% define value by total cost, including implementation, services and ongoing support
  • 77% expect dedicated specialists who know their account instead of a ticket queue

Buyers will make a change, but only when a vendor reduces fragmentation, eases the burden of switching and preserves oversight at every step. That could explain why 80% are open to using AI throughout HR processes, but only when human guardrails help control the automated decisions around their workforce.
