What’s it really like to build a career helping businesses solve complex challenges every day? We sat down with Tony, an Executive Client Success Manager (internally known as a Paycom Specialist) based at Paycom’s Oklahoma City headquarters, to talk about his journey, his growth in the Product Service Department (PSD) and what it’s like building a career in tech right here in OKC.
If you asked me a few years ago where I would be today, I probably would not have said “working as an Executive Client Success Manager.” Looking back, though, the path makes sense, especially at Paycom in Oklahoma City.
I have been at Paycom for a little over three and a half years, and my journey started as an Emerging Markets Account Representative. Like a lot of people in Oklahoma City, I already knew the Paycom name. You hear about it everywhere. What really caught my attention was the opportunity to build a long-term career. I was not just looking for a job; I wanted a place where I could grow.
From selling Paycom to supporting our clients
Starting off in sales gave me a strong foundation. I spent my days talking with prospects who were using other platforms and hearing firsthand what worked, what didn’t and where other systems fell short. That experience reassured me that Paycom’s single-database software is the key differentiator, and I wanted to see clients use Paycom to its full potential.
After about a year, I transitioned to PSD, where I started as a specialist and have now been promoted to an Executive Client Success Manager. The move felt natural. I realized I enjoyed helping clients succeed more than chasing the next sale.
Today, my role is focused on guiding clients through Paycom and helping them solve problems, adopt best practices and get real value from the software. I do more than troubleshoot; I build relationships. When clients are under pressure, they want someone who understands what they are dealing with and can help them move forward with confidence, and that’s only possible through our dedicated service model. We do this by providing clients with a single point of contact, eliminating the runaround and directly connecting them with their dedicated specialist.
A career that pushes you to grow
The challenge this role brings me is part of what makes Paycom such a great place to build a career.
You are constantly balancing communication with internal teams while making sure clients feel supported and heard. If you are not organized or willing to learn quickly, the role will challenge you; however, that challenge is also where growth happens.
Since joining Paycom, I have had tremendous career growth. What made that progression possible was the environment. The leaders here don’t just talk about growth; they actively support it. If you are clear about your goals and willing to put in the work, people will coach you, give you feedback and help you take the next step.
I am especially interested in leadership and process improvement. I am always looking at how we do things and asking if there is a better way. That mindset is not just encouraged here, it’s expected. And it is empowering to know your voice matters.
Working on Paycom’s Oklahoma City campus
Some of my favorite memories from Paycom come from the toughest days. Working long hours, managing tight deadlines and problem-solving under pressure tend to bring teams together.
Working on Paycom’s Oklahoma City campus makes collaboration easier. You’re surrounded by people who are just as driven and invested as you are. Whether it is leaning on teammates during year-end or collaborating across departments, there is a strong sense of shared ownership that makes even the hardest days feel manageable.
The campus culture makes it easy to connect with people you might not otherwise meet. From walking the courtyard to grabbing lunch or playing intramural pickleball or soccer, you are constantly crossing paths with new faces, so coming into the office feels energizing rather than routine.
Benefits that impact your life
Paycom’s benefits play a bigger role than people might realize. Competitive compensation matters, and it has had a real impact on my personal life. The $1 health insurance, on-site fitness centers and well-being offerings across Paycom’s corporate campus all add up.
You do not always realize how unique those benefits are until you talk to friends who work elsewhere. That’s when it really sinks in how much Paycom invests in its employees.
